The Community School
Camden, Maine

The Community School in Camden, Maine is an alternative residential high school with the "goal of encouraging life-long learning and providing students with the skills and experiences necessary to connect with their families, practice personal responsibility, and contribute to their communities". Each September, eight students come together to live at the campus with staff. Upon successful completion of the program, students receive a high school diploma from the State of Maine. In 2004, I spent five months photographing the environment and spirit of this incredible community.
